The purpose of this course is to provide graduate students with an overview of the group process in counseling and/or psychotherapy settings. The course will emphasize group development (i.e., technique selection, procedures and group composition, group size, media utilized, group setting, frequency and length of sessions and duration of treatment), ethics in group counseling/ psychotherapy, and group leadership/membership issues. Lectures, discussions, and student presentations will provide an overview of the theoretical rationale and methodology from a variety of theoretical orientations. Techniques of the different group models will be demonstrated through group work simulations.
